Trips Away

Weekends away are organized several times each year.  These usually involve several walks on successive days, a group meal or pub visit, and hostel-type accommodation.

Weekend away: National Trust Great Langdale Campsite near Ambleside, Cumbria.

Ramblers members are to book and pay for their own tent pitch, pod or tipi at the following

For those without tents, the campsite has pods that can be hired with electricity sockets.

Cost of small tent pitch: £16/ night. Pod for two adults: £60/ night.

Breakfasts/ Pack lunches/ Dinner

The on-site National Trust shop sells breakfasts of bacon rolls/ coffee also items for pack

lunches. Breakfast and pack lunches can also be provided by the weekends away Co

Ordinator by arrangement and for a small fee - details of which are to be provided nearer

the holiday.

We will book a table at the nearby Stickle barn pub for dinner during the evenings.

Numbers attending

We are looking for a group of around 10 Ramblers members. (For safety reasons, insurance

purposes and practicality). All booking and accommodation on a first come first served

basis.

Description:

Our aim is to camp or hire a pod/ tipi at the excellent National Trust Campsite at Great

Langdale near Ambleside in Cumbria. The Campsite has views of The Langdale Pikes.

The site has excellent facilities including hot showers and shop selling all the essentials.

On Saturday, we embark on an eight-mile hike along the Langdale Valley offering stunning

views of the Langdale Pikes. On Sunday, we follow a footpath that runs alongside the

spectacular Dungeon Ghyll Force waterfall that involves a climb of about 1500ft on a series

of stone steps.


(Please note that there is no mobile phone signal at the campsite.)

Please let Gerard know as soon as possible after booking - to confirm you will attend the

weekend away.

Also, please confirm the following with Gerard via e mail/ text message:

Provide details of type of accommodation/ booking (camping tent pitch or bed in

dormitory room).

Whether you wish to have a pack lunch for Saturday and or Sunday.

Confirm Ramblers membership number (Insurance purposes)

Emergency contact number - if needed for an emergency while on holiday

Please also indicate that you will be attending on the Walk Cambridge Facebook site.

A detailed programme and itinerary will be sent to members attending; detailing hike routes

and maps nearer to the start of the holiday.
